Description:

France holding. Belt given by the Jesuits to New England Native Tribe.

According to René Gobillo (1957): it was in 1700, a second belt was "given to the Abenaki. It was also a belt, composed of 11,000 porcelain beads, representing the number of individuals of the tribe. On the bottom, dark purple, reads: MATRI VIRGIN ABNAQUAE DD. A letter from Father Bigot and an Abenaki accompanying the shipment."

This ecclesiastical belt was sent by the Huron-Wendat mission of Lorette, present Wendake, to the cathedral of Notre-Dame, Charles in 1699
